Surrey police say shooting was actually a stabbing

Surrey RCMP say a man who was significantly injured Sunday night was stabbed and not shot as originally reported.

Surrey RCMPsay a man who was significantly injured Sunday night was stabbed and not shot as originally reported.

Police had initiallyresponded to calls ofshots fired in the Port Kells neighbourhoodaround 184 Street and 92 Avenueshortly after midnight.

When they arrived, they found a man with serious injuries.

Police issued a news release Monday morning clarifying that in fact, shots had not been fired and that a man hadsuffered significant injuries consistent with stab wounds.

He was transported to hospitalwhere he is currently being treated.

Investigators believe the attack was targeted, but they haven'tnamed the victim or said if any suspects have been identified.

Streets in the areawill be closed while investigators gatherevidence.
