A nasty three-alarm fire that belched and spewed thick black smoke from an auto shop and restaurant Monday morning posed no health riskfire officials told CBC Windsor and the blaze did not affect the annual Mayor's Walk.

The City of Windsor's birthday celebration began at 10 a.m Monday at Assumption Park. Activities started before the annual Mayor's Walk, which started at 10:30 a.m.

The walk ended at Riverfront Festival Plaza with live music, children's activities and the city's birthday cupcakes.

Smoke from the fire at Le Chef Restaurant at 840 Wyandotte Street E. and Downtown Auto Service could be seen from west Windsor to Riverside to Highway 401 in Lakeshore.

Windsor Fire and Rescue fire prevention officer John Lee said smoke, which he said was likely toxic, was spewing "straight up" and not drifting toward the downtown party.

People were all smiles, wishing the Rose City all the best Monday.
