36 writers make the 2022 CBC Short Story Prize longlist

The winner will receive $6,000, attend a two-week writing residency and have their work published on CBC Books. The shortlist will be revealed on April 21, 2022.

Thirty-six writers from across Canada have been longlisted for the 2022CBC Short StoryPrize.

The complete longlist is:

The longlist was selected from more than 2,300 English-language submissions.

A team of writers and editors from across Canadacompiled the list.

The jury selects the shortlist and the eventual winner from the readers' longlisted selections. The 2022jury is comprised ofOmar El Akkad, Casey Plett and David Bergen.

The shortlist will be announced on April 21and the winner will be announced on April 28.

The winner of the 2022CBC Short StoryPrizewill receive $6,000 from theCanada Council for the Arts, have their work published onCBC Booksand will have the opportunity to attend a two-week writing residency at theBanff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

Four finalists will each receive $1,000 from theCanada Council for the Artsand have their work published onCBC Books.

The CBC Literary Prizes have been recognizing Canadian writers since 1979. Past winners includeDavid Bergen,Michael Ondaatje,Carol ShieldsandMichael Winter.

The 2022CBC Poetry Prizeisopen for submissionsuntil May31, 2022. The2023CBC Short Story Prizewill open in September and the 2023CBC Nonfiction Prizewill open in January 2023.
