A 16 year old Kamloops boy will undergo a psychiatric assessment today. The assessment comes after he had a standoff with police on Springhill drive Tuesday night. The boy had threatened to harm his mother and indicated he might hurt himself. After speaking with the teen, who wouldn't leave his home, police entered the house and subdued him using a taser. Police say the boy had a board in his hands and was wielding it like a weapon.

B.C. has had its first avalanche fatality of the season. A 50 year old man was killed in an avalanche while working as a surveyor at a minerals camp near Stewart in the far northwest. Two employees were taking G.P.S coordinates on a steep slope at the time.
Both workers were swept away by the avalanche. One was able to get free, and wasn't injured. The other man was swept off a 300 metre cliff.

That's after Justice Ministry Shirley Bond announced a plan to address court delays without adding additional money. Crown Counsel Association president Samiran Lakshman says cutbacks in legal aid and a hiring freeze on prosecutors are contributing to the court crisis.
