More Stanley Cup riot charges approved

The Criminal Justice Branch has approved charges against 5 more people in connection with the Stanley Cup Riot.The latest round of charges are against 3 adults and 2 young people. That brings the total number of individuals charged to 161.

The XL Foods Lakeside Packers plant in Brooks, Alberta is back in business. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency lifted suspension of the company's operating license this morning. Officials say operators can  resume slaughter and meat processing operations at the plant on a gradual basis under the surveillance of inspectors.

Jobs Minister Pat Bell says his ministry will investigate a complaint from the B.C. Federation of Labour alleging miners from China are being asked to pay exorbitant fees to work in B.C. mines. The federation believes the foreign miners are being forced to pay the fees to a recruitment agency despite laws in this country against such payments. Labour organizers are also upset that Canadian workers have not been hired to work in the Murray River coal operation near Tumbler Ridge.
