Violent home invasion in Williams Lake

Halloween night was violent in Williams Lake. The RCMP say shortly after 9 o'clock they were called to a home invasion. A group of people had forced their way into a home with machetes, bats, and bear spray. The people who lived in the home locked themselves in a room. The home invaders then ransacked the home doing major damage. The Williams Lake RCMP arrived and chased the suspects to a home. Police say they arrested a hostile and uncooperative group of 12 people. The suspects are known to police.

It appears Saturday's earthquake off B.C.'s northwestern may have destroyed a popular natural hot spring in Gwaii Haanas national park. Ernie Gladstone is the park's superintendent. He says the springs were still steaming last week, but now to his dismay there is not even a puddle left. Geological experts will investigate what may have happened to the springs in the days to come.

The province has announced new funding for midwives in B.C. as part of a new agreement between midwives and the province. The funding will cover the costs of having a second midwife or professional attend all homebirths. Until now, the 2nd person was required but the cost wasn't funded. Margaret McDiarmid says this is all about providing choice for women.
