DIY this cheese board

Cheese trays are everywhere these days - and they're super easy to make! Here's how to create your very own.

A cheese tray is the perfect addition to any party. They are easy to make and they're a great gift. Here's how to create your own cheese tray!

What you'll need:

  • Dremel rotary tool
  • Raw pine plank 12"x24"
  • Minwax stain wipes
  • Purdy XL 2.5" brush
  • Rustoleum chalkboard paint
  • Thick jute rope
  • U-Bolts x 4
  • Drill & drill bit
  • White chalk
  • Beeswax
  • Hairdryer [or Minwax Polyurethane]

Directions:

1. Stain both sides of the pine plank with a Minwax stain sheet and allow it to dry.

2. Paint a 4" stripe of Rustoleum chalkboard paint down the centre of the plank and allow to dry.

3. Drill holes for drawer pulls using a Dremel. Then, attach drawer pulls to the top of the pine plank. What is a Dremel, you ask? It's a rotary tool invented by AJ Dremel over 75 years ago. It's used for things like cutting, sanding, engraving and drilling usually for small, precise projects. A Dremel uses high speed and low-torque and can be used on wood, metal, glass, electronics, plastic, and many other materials.

4. Use Varathane to seal the stained portion of the wood. To make it food safe, seal the stained area with beeswax. Then use the low setting on your hairdryer to slightly melt the wax this will help to remove white residue.

5. Use chalk to add the names of your cheese types on the cheese platter.

6. Using the Dremel, add some decorative details to the tray.

7. Put a piece of waxed paper under each piece of cheese so they don't stain the surface.
