1. To detoxify the liver
We are exposed to chemicals and toxins every single day and our liver is the master organ of detoxification. The liver requires specific nutrients to do it's job, which is where onions come in, because they are rich in sulfur compounds that aid in detoxing the liver. Onions are also amazing for supporting the immune system because they boost vitamin C levels in the body.

2. To helppreventcancer
Broccoli is pretty amazing, because there are phytonutrients that spark 100s of genetic changes, some of which activate genes that fight cancer and others that switch off genes that fuel tumours. This green veg is another detox superfood and it can help to balance hormones by aiding in the elimination of excess estrogens.

3. To promotehealthy skin
Almonds are rich in vitamin E, protein (6g in a small handful) and healthy fats, all of which are important for skin health. Almonds are a great source of fiber (3.5 gram fiber in a small handful).

4. To aid in digestion
Lemons not only enhance digestive secretions, but they are a detox superfood as well. They help to cleanse the liver by aiding in the production of bile. Bile is a carrier of toxic waste products. Lemons are also rich in vitamin C.

5. To balance blood sugar
Just the smell of cinnamon has been shown to boost cognitive function and it is great for those who crave sweets, but want to add something to their meal that doesn't make their blood sugar spike.

6. To boost your vitamin C
Papayas contain an enzyme, called papain, that aids in digestion and can also be used as a meat tenderizer. Papayas are an incredibly hydrating foodgreat for beauty too! McCarthy often adds it to homemade face masks.
