THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 [EVENING]

CBC NEWS: THE NATIONAL
CBC News Network is offering ongoing coverage of the death of Queen Elizabeth and reaction from around the world. Tonight on The National, Margaret Evans and Chris Brown will be reporting live from the UK on public reaction there and what comes next. Chief correspondent Adrienne Arsenault anchors The National, tonight at 9 on CBC News Network, 10 p.m. on CBC TV and CBC Gem. 

THE QUEEN IN CANADA

Tonight, CBC TV will broadcast the documentary The Queen and Canada at 8 p.m. local time. In this moving documentary, chief correspondent Adrienne Arsenault was given rare access to Windsor Castle and examines the deep connection and complicated relationship between Queen Elizabeth and Canada. She speaks with high-profile and everyday Canadians who share stories of their personal encounters with the Queen. Also available to stream now on CBC Gem.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 9

THE CURRENT

Friday morning on The Current at 8:30 a.m. (9 a.m. NT) — Join host Matt Galloway as he looks at how people are paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, assessing her legacy as both a beloved and sometimes controversial figure, as she served as monarch for 70 years. Available on CBC Radio One and CBC Listen.

CBC NEWS SPECIAL: THE KING’S ADDRESS

Join host Heather Hiscox for live coverage of King Charles III’s first address to the UK and Commonwealth beginning at 12:30 p.m. on CBC News Network and cbcnews.ca, and joined in progress at 1 p.m. ET on CBC TV. A broadcast special on CBC Radio One and CBC Listen hosted by Marcia Young will also begin at 1 p.m. ET

THE CORONATION DOCUMENTARY

In this one-hour documentary, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II shares her memories of her 1953 Coronation ceremony, marking the 65th anniversary of the occasion. Viewing rarely seen film footage, and looking at some of the priceless Crown Jewels themselves, the Queen recalls the day the Crown and the hopes of a nation were placed on her shoulders. The Coronation will broadcast Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. (1:30 NT) on CBC TV and is also streaming for free on CBC Gem.

*NOTE this breaking news special partially preempts the CBC TV broadcast of The Coronation documentary in Quebec and Ontario.

CBC NEWS SPECIAL: THE ACCESSION OF KING CHARLES III

Join host Heather Hiscox for a CBC News special, Saturday morning from 5 a.m. - 7 a.m. ET on CBC News Network, cbcnews.ca,  and CBC TV. The Accession Council convenes at Saint James Palace to mark the succession of the throne. 

THE HOUSE

Saturday on The House, former prime minister Brian Mulroney joins host Catherine Cullen to reflect on Queen Elizabeth’s legacy and the challenges ahead for King Charles. Then, Canadian governance expert Philippe Lagassé explains what changes to expect over the weeks and months to come. And Indigenous environmental activist Dahti Tsetso talks about her meeting with the new king earlier this year. That’s on The House, this morning at 9, 9:30 in Newfoundland on CBC Listen and CBC Radio One.

DAY 6

Saturday morning on Day 6 — host Saroja Coelho looks at what Balmoral Estate meant to Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen died at Balmoral Estate in the Scottish Highlands on Thursday — a place that’s held a great deal of significance throughout her life. It’s where she spent many summers as a child and later met her husband. It is said she liked to serve guests, wash dishes and “play act” a normal life while at Balmoral, according to writer and historian Hadley Meares. Tune in Saturday morning at 10 a.m., 10:30 in Newfoundland and Labrador on CBC Radio One and on the free CBC Listen app.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

ROSEMARY BARTON LIVE

Rosemary Barton Live returns for a new season this morning. Chief political correspondent Rosemary Barton will speak with former Governor General Michaëlle Jean about her moments with the Queen and how the late monarch embraced new perspectives. That’s on Rosemary Barton Live, Sunday from 10 a.m. till noon Eastern on CBC News Network and CBC Gem, and 11 a.m. till noon on CBC TV.

CROSS COUNTRY CHECKUP

Sunday on Cross Country Checkup — Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning British monarch, has died. She had 22 royal tours of Canada, more than any other Commonwealth country. What did Queen Elizabeth mean to you? How do you feel about King Charles the Third, Canada’s new head of state? This intimate and revealing portrait features an all-female cast of historians, journalists, biographers and close friends we examine the Queen as a Monarch and how she successfully modernized and adapted the monarchy to keep it a relevant in an ever changing world and also as a woman who was an inspiration and role model to other women throughout the world.
