SHEILA NORTH NAMED HOST OF CBC WINNIPEG NEWS LATE NIGHT

Jan 25, 2022

WINNIPEG - Sheila North is the new host of CBC Winnipeg News Late Night, bringing viewers everything they need to know about the day’s events each weeknight on CBC Television.

A member of Bunibonibee Cree Nation (also known as Oxford House), Sheila is a storyteller. She has worked as a journalist for CBC and CTV for over 10 years and left CTV News after being elected Grand Chief of Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) in September 2015, a role she held until 2018. She rejoined CBC in 2021 as a reporter.

In her roles as Grand Chief and as a journalist, Sheila has been recognized for her work in building bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and raising awareness on the critical issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW).

"This is a dream come true and I'm looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities," said North. “Connecting with communities is vital during these volatile times, and it’s a privilege to be welcomed into the homes of Manitobans every weeknight.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Sheila in the CBC Winnipeg News Late Night chair,” said Melanie Verhaeghe, Managing Editor, CBC Manitoba. “Sheila’s depth of experience, charisma and community focus will no doubt resonate with viewers.”

Sheila’s first day in the host chair on CBC Winnipeg News Late Night is January 25, 2022. Tune in to CBC Winnipeg News late Night weekdays at 11:00 p.m. on CBC Television.
