Son Of A Critch

About the Show

Based on the award-winning, best-selling memoir from Mark Critch (host of CBCs long-running This Hour Has 22 Minutes), Son of a Critch is the hilarious and very real coming of age tale set in 1980s Newfoundland. Its a heartfelt window into the life of a 14-year-old boy - much older than his years who uses comedy and self-deprecation to win friends and find his place in the world.

Mark has always been a late bloomer. But this season, we see him finally start to bloom. As the season begins, we find that Mark has anxiously made his first awkward steps into junior high. Hes now in grade nine and should be king of the castle. One year on top before the cycle starts anew in high school where hell find himself once again at the bottom rung. Until then, grade nine brings the promise of being the Big Man On Campus. But is Mark ready for junior high?

A CBC original comedy, SON OF A CRITCH is the creation of actor/producer/writer Mark Critch and showrunner/writer Tim McAuliffe (writer/producer of NBCs The Office, FOXs Last Man on Earth, NBCs Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and CBCs This Hour Has 22 Minutes). Critch portrays his own father, Mike, while Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Netflixs The Haunting of Bly Manor and Disneys Pinocchio) plays young Mark. Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange and HBOs Entourage) plays his grandfather, Pop. Claire Rankin (Sci-fis Stargate Atlantis) plays his mother, Mary. Series directors include Renuka Jeyapalan (Netflixs Ginny and Georgia and CBCs Kims Convenience), John Vatcher (Netflix/Discoverys Frontier and CBCs Caught), Deanne Foley (An Audience of Chairs and Relative Happiness), and Vanessa Matsui (Ghost BFF). Son of a Critch is an inter-provincial co-production between Andrew Barnsleys Project 10 Productions Inc. and Newfoundland-based Take the Shot Productions in association with CBC and Lionsgate Television, and executive produced by Mark Critch, Tim McAuliffe, Andrew Barnsley, and Allan Hawco. Renuka Jeyapalan, Perry Chafe, Anita Kapila and Amanda Joy serve as co-executive producers. John Vatcher serves as producer.
