Sarah McLachlan, Tom Cochrane to be inducted into Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame

Sarah McLachlan, Tom Cochrane,two members of Blue Rodeo and Quebec singer Diane Tell are among the latest inductees into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The songwriterswill be toasted during an induction ceremony at Toronto's Massey Hall on Sept. 28, with presenters and performers still to be announced.

McLachlan's songwriting credits includeher biggest hit, "Angel," and as co-writer on "I Will Remember You," along withSamus Egan and Dave Merenda. McLachlan iscurrently on a North Americananniversary tour of her third studioalbum, 1993'sFumbling TowardsEcstasy.

Among many others in his catalogue, Cochrane wrote his rollicking classic "Life is a Highway," which found a second life in the hands of Nashville act Rascal Flatts.

Blue Rodeo's Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor, who share songwriting duties in their country-rock act, will be honoured together. The twowere the masterminds of Blue Rodeo favourites that include "Try" and "Lost Together." Quebec songwriter Tellwrote the 1981 French-Canadian classic "Si j'tais un homme" (which translates to"If I Were a Man"), for which she won four Flix Awards.

Tickets for the induction ceremony and show will go on sale to the public on Friday, May 31,through Ticketmaster.

The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame selects new inductees every two years. Its last round of names included Alanis Morissette, Bryan Adams and David Foster, and past inductees also include Neil Young and Anne Murray.
