Amy Schumer, Hollywood react to Louisiana theatre shooting

Amy Schumer is among the many celebrities expressing their shock and grief over a deadly theatre shooting in Lafayette, Louisiana. The shooting, which left two dead and nine injured, occurred during a screening of Schumer's film Trainwreck.

Amy Schumer is among the many celebrities expressing their shock and grief on social mediaover a deadly theatre shooting in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The shooting, which left two dead and nine injured, occurred during a screening of Schumer's box-office hitTrainwreck.

Schumer wrote and stars in the film, where she plays a monogamy-aversemagazinewriter who falls in love with a sports doctordespite her best efforts.

Schumer was re-tweeted by thousands of people, including Trainwreck cast member and comedian Mike Birbiglia.

Wrestling star John Cena, who plays Schumer'sboyfriend at the start of the film, also tweeted about the shooting, as didTrainwreckcast member and comedian DaveAttell.

Lena Dunham, who has worked with Trainwreck directorJudd Apatow on her television show Girls, expressed shock and dismay at the news. Dunham's comedy is similar to Schumer's; both have been considered 'raunchy' for their portrayals of women, and tend toshow more typicalfemale body types onscreen as opposed to the model-thin actress norm.

Other well-known entertainers expressed their grief.King ofQueens comedianPatton Oswaltwas one of the first to express his sympathies for the victims and their families.

Popular comic book writer and comedian, Kevin Smith, also despaired over the shooting.

Emmy-nominated actress, Jenna Fischer, who playedPam BeeslyonThe Office, waded in by broaching gun politics.

Bob Gazzale, head of the American Film Institute, issued a statement to Hollywood news website TheWrapabout the shooting:

"Going to a summer movie is a celebration of the American creative spirit and one of our nation's most beloved pastimes. Let us stand together in these times of tragedy and embrace what is precious to us churches, schools and places where the arts can send our spirits soaring. As a national community of artists and audiences, AFI offers our heartfelt sympathies to the victims in Louisiana and their families."

English singer-songwriter, Sam Smith, reeled on Twitter.

Louisiana Governor and presidential hopeful Bobby Jindaltravelled to Lafayette late Thursday night after the shooting. He tweeted that he was grateful for law enforcement's quick response to the shooting.Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft credited law enforcement's quick response with forcing the shooterback into the theatre.
