New CBC series to dig into what Canada's teens are learning

An intimate new CBC-TVseries centred on a British Columbia high school will delve into Canada's current education system and offer a"revealing look at how the next generation of Canadians is being educated."

The public broadcaster has ordered six episodes ofan observational documentary series from Paperny Entertainment, tentatively titled The School.

The series will be shot on location at South Kamloops Secondary School in April.

It is slated to air on CBC-TV this fall.

The projectcomes amid a recent wave of popular, education-focused British TV documentary programs examining the inner workings of schools. Thismini genre was kicked off by Channel 4's hit, award-winning seriesEducating Essex, which blended fly-on-the-wall footage from inside a secondary school with interviews of staff and students by the documentary'sdirector.

Last fall, CBC-TV also featured an in-depth look at health care today inKeeping Canada Alive, a six-part documentary series narrated by Kiefer Sutherland.
