Twain's Why Not? to chronicle personal struggles

Canadian country star Shania Twain will revisit her life andher return to music in her new television series premiering in May.

Producers of Why Not? with Shania Twain announced Thursday that the hour-long show will have its debut the evening of May 8 on theOprah Winfrey Network.

The series will have its Canadian debuton May 27, according to Corus Entertainment, whichbroadcasts OWN programming in Canada.

Why Not? is billed as a "personal journey" with thepop-country singer, bandmates and friends as she crosses the U.S. and Canada.

Stops include her former home in Timmins, Ont., to revisit herimpoverished childhoodand speak aboutthe sudden death of her parents in a car accident.

Cameras will also follow Twain as she meets with vocal coaches and grief counsellors, talks to others who have suffered hardships in their lives and seekscareer advicefrom music industry figures like Gladys Knight and David Foster.

On the show, Twain will also discuss the breakdown of her marriage to former collaborator Robert (Mutt) Lange in 2008, as well as herrelationshipwith second husband Frdric Thibaud, whom shemarried on Jan. 1.

Twain, a 12-time winnerat Canada's Juno Awards, will beinducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fameat this year's gala March 27in Toronto. Atria Books, an imprint of Simon and Schuster, is also slated to publishan autobiographyby the chart-topping singer this spring.
