WestJet, American in code share deal

Shares in Calgary-based WestJet rose Monday after it announced it had signed a code sharing agreement with American Airlines.

WestJet stock closed up 24 cents, or 1.6 per cent, at $15.05 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The agreementwill allow both companies to offer connecting service on each other's flights to select cities.

It would allow WestJet to offer connecting flights from Canada to Chicago and Boston.

The airline said its expected to be able to add other cities under the agreement with American in the "near future."

American Airlines will now have connecting services to as many as 20 Canadian cities.

Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
