Abbotsford's kinda boring community plan gets hilarious video

Abbotsford filmmaker Adam Wormald says theres more to his city than highways, farms and trucking. And to show it off and inform people about the city's community plan he turned to comedy.

Abbotsford filmmaker Adam Wormald says there's more to his city than highways, farms and trucking.

But, he says, many young people think there's not much going on in "the city in the country," so he created a funny video to highlight the City's new Abbotsfordcommunity plan.

In the video, local comedian Cliff Prang bets fellow funnyman Sunee Dhaliwal $20 he can convince him not to move to Vancouver by showcasing the best the city has to offer, while describing the urban plan that apparently has all the kids talking.

"A lot of young people just like the allure of the big city. Traditionally, Abbotsford hasn't had a lot to offer as far as nightlife or entertainment or exciting things to do potentially, even opportunity," Wormald told On The Coast host Stephen Quinn.

"A lot of people are moving to other cities. I witnessed that with a lot of friends from high school."

The video showcases the city's restaurants and attractionsand even has Mayor Henry Braun in a cameo appearance poking fun at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's infamous elbowing incident.

"He said, 'what do I need to do, let's do this,'" Wormald said of the mayor's reaction to being cast in the video.

"Apparently he had to ask around and figure out what the word 'dope' means because Sunee calls him 'dope.' He was really into it."

So the video is funnyand shows Abbotsford in a great light but is it all a bit of a stretch?

Can Abbotsford really compete with a major city like Vancouver for the futures of young people?

"Not yet, but we are definitely getting there," Wormald said. "It's definitely changing. We're seeing more and more young people, even people I graduated with 10 years ago moving back to Abbotsford People are just more excited to be here."
