Burnaby RCMP have made an arrest in connection with the recent murder of 21yearold Chinese exchange student, Wei Amanda Zhao.

Police say the cousin of Zhao's boyfriend also a student from China was taken into custody on Friday. They say Han Zhang lived with Zhao and her boyfriend, Ang Li, in their Burnaby apartment.

Zhang is charged with being an accessory after the fact. He makes a court appearance on Monday.

Zhao disappeared on the evening of October 9, after she left their basement suite to go to the grocery store. Her body was found in Mission, 11 days later.

Police have not said how she was killed.

Earlier in the investigation, they ruled out Li as a suspect, and allowed him to return to China.

The RCMP came under some criticism for its handling of the case. Police did not go public with the fact that Zhao was missing until a week after her disappearance.
