BC Ferries refunds weekend double billing

BC Ferries is apologizing after some customers were charged twice for their fares over the Easter long weekend, because of a glitch in the credit card processing system.

BC Ferries is apologizing after some customers were charged twice for their fares over the Easter long weekend, because of a glitch in the credit card processing system.

"The system error was triggered by the high volume of refunds that were processed as a result of cancelled sailings due to the windstorm on Good Friday," BC Ferries said in a statement issued on Thursday.

Several sailings between Vancouver and Vancouver Island were cancelled as a windstorm swept the South Coast.

The Crown corporation said the double-processing also applied to some refunds, but promised all the mistaken transactions would be reversed as soon as possible.

"The company expects the issue to be resolved by early next week, which should be reflected on customer's credit card statements," said the statement.
