Open House and Food Bank Day Frequently Asked Questions

How do I donate?

You can donate now online, or via phone and in-person on December 6 at the CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre.

Should I donate canned foods or money?

A monetary donation is highly encouraged because the food bank can make each dollar stretch in its efforts to provide healthy fresh foods.

How long is the tour? What will we see and do?

Tours are approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. It is a self-guided tour where you will be able to explore CBC Vancouver's state-of-the-art integrated newsroom, television and radio studios, and even get a chance to meet some CBC personalities!

New this year: in consideration for the safety of all, we will be implementing new security features at the event this year. Visitors will go through a bag check and metal detector area upon entry of the Broadcast Centre. CBC bag policy only allows soft-sided bags, purses and briefcases smaller than 14" X 14" X 6" into the building. All bags will be searched. Please account for this when timing your day.

How do we get there?

CBC/Radio-Canada is located at 700 Hamilton Street (between Georgia St. and Robson St.), across from the Vancouver Public Library's Central Branch. Groups are encouraged to take public transportation, as we are a short walk away from Stadium-Chinatown Station and located among many bus routes.

If you are coming as a group, please arrive 15 minutes prior to your booked tour time. While we will do our best to accommodate late arrivals, on-time groups will be given first priority.

Will I meet CBC hosts and personalities?

Yes! At different times during the day, your CBC favourites - like Stephen Quinn, Anita Bathe, Mike Killeen, Ian Hanomansing, Gloria Macarenko and more - will be meeting and greeting the public throughout the newsroom tour. They are happy to pose for photos with you too!

I can't make it to Open House and Food Bank Day -- can I still participate?

You can listen to live shows like The Early Edition, BC Today, North by Northwest and On The Coast on CBC Radio One, or online at CBC Listen, and watch our Facebook Live for a real time glimpse into Open House and Food Bank Day! Of course you can always donate, either by phone or online.

Where can we park?

There are a limited number of paid parking stalls in lots and streets nearby.

For larger vehicles and buses, an EasyPark lot located nearby at 688 Cambie Street (bordered by Cambie, Dunsmuir, Beatty and West Georgia St.) can accommodate bus parking.

There are passenger pick-up and drop-off zones directly in front of our building, and adjacent to our building along the 200-block of Georgia Street (designated with special event signage). Vehicles are not permitted to park in the passenger zones.

Where do I line up?

When you arrive on the CBC plaza at 700 Hamilton Street, a friendly CBC Ambassador will be there to greet you and direct you to the bag check tent. All visitors are required to go through this area before entering the CBC Broadcast Centre.

Our group is booked for more than 25 people. Can we go through the tour together?

Our newsroom can only accommodate up to 25 people per tour group at a time, however, we can certainly book your group for multiple back-to-back time slots to accommodate a larger group size.

Is the event accessible?

Yes! The tour is accessible. Please advise us of any accessibility requirements in advance, and we will be happy to accommodate.
