'Dude Chilling' sign reconsidered by Vancouver's parks board

An Internet sensation is one step closer to finding a home in an EastVancouver park.

Vancouver's Board of Parks, Recreation and Culture has voted in favour of asking staff to determine if there's a suitable place to set up the "Dude Chilling Park" sign.

The sign, whichwas created by an artist to mirror the format of other city park signs, was originally erected on the sly in Mount Pleasant's Guelph Park, where a Michael Dennis sculpture of a lounging figure features prominently in the landscape.

When parkstaff noticed the rogue sign in November, it was taken down. However, an outpouring of support through social media for the sign led the park board toreconsider.

Park commissioner Sarah Blyth said that even if the sign wasn't posted at Guelph Park again, other communities are eager to offer the sign a place in the city.

"The Museum of Vancouver has suggested they'd like tohave it there, at their place. [The]Mount PleasantCommunityCentre said that they wanted it, at least temporarily, until it found a home," she said.

Google Mapsalso weighed in on the unofficial re-naming, displaying"Dude Chilling Park" as the name of the green space onits online map service in January.
