B.C. Votes 2022: Fraser Valley election results for Langley, Chilliwack, Abbotsford and more

Eric Woodward has defeated former provincial cabinet minister Rich Coleman to become the next mayor of the Township of Langley.

Woodward, a former councillor, won a decisive victory with 42 per cent of the vote, more than 3,000 votes ahead of Blair Whitmarsh in second place and Coleman in third.

Former two-term councillor Michelle Sparrow, who was defeated in 2018, finished in fourth place with 3,188votes.

The Langley Township will be one of at least three cities across the Fraser Valley thatwill have new mayorsafter incumbents decided not to run.

Langley Township's new city council will be comprised of Barb Martens, Margaret Kunst, Steve Ferguson, Misty Van Popta, Rob Rindt, Tim Baillie, Kim Richter and Michale Pratt.

Meanwhile, in the City of Langley, incumbent Val van den Broekhas been defeatedby Nathan Pachal, who received 64 per cent of the vote.

The new city councillors are Paul Albrecht, Mike Solyom, Rosemary Wallace, Teri James, Leith White and Delaney Mack.

Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows

Dan Ruimy has been elected mayor of Maple Ridge with 44 per cent of votes over incumbent Mike Morden's 30 per cent.

Four candidates with Ruimy's A Better Maple Ridge have been elected to city council: Jenny Tan, Korleen Carreras, Sunny Schiller and Onyeka Dozie. Judy Dyeck with Morden's Maple Ridge First slate has also been elected to council, as well as independent Ahmed Yousef.

In neighbouringPitt Meadows, Nicole MacDonald has been acclaimed as mayor after previously serving on council. Ballots are counted and the municipality's newest councillors are Tracy Elke, Alison Evans, Mike Hayes, Mike Manion, Bob Meachenand Gwen O'Connell.

Abbotsford and Chilliwack

Two-term councillorRoss Siemens has won the race to replace HenryBraun as mayor of Abbotsford ahead ofPaul Pellikaan and Manjit Sohi.

The new Abbotsford city councillors are Dave Sidhu, Patricia Ross, Les Barkman, Patricia Driessen, Mark Warkentin, Kelly Chahal, Dave Loewen and Simon Gibson.

As B.C.'s fifth-largest municipality, Abbotsford is still recovering from major flooding that devastated the region in late 2021, with cost estimatesfor upgrades to dikes and other infrastructure being measured inthe billions.

In Chilliwack, incumbent Ken Popovehas been re-elected with a decisive 75 per cent of votes over Ian Carmichael.

Popove will work with six councillors: Jason Lum, Chris Kloot, Nicole Huitema Read, Jeff Shields, Harv Westeringh and Bud Mercer.

Mission

Incumbent Paul Horn has won the mayor's office with 66 per cent of votes over Kenny Braich and Dustin Hiles, an opera singer and anti-abortion activist who hadbeen endorsed by former premier Christy Clark and the Campaign Life Coalition.

He will work with the following six city councillors: Jag Gill, Ken Herar, Carol Hamilton, Mark Davies, Danny Plecas and Angel Elias.
