Convicted killer of Japanese exchange student files appeal

The B.C. man convicted of murdering Japanese exchange student Natsumi Kogawa has filed an appeal of his guilty verdict.

William Schneiderwas found guilty of second-degree murder in Kogawa's death in October2018. He was sentenced to life with no parole for 14 years.

Thirty-year-old Kogawa'sbody was found inside a suitcase on the grounds of the Gabriola Mansion in Vancouver's West End in September2016.

She had been studying English in Vancouver on a student visa.

Prior to his murder conviction, Schneider pleaded guilty to interfering with human remains or offering an indignity to a human body in relation to the case.
