2 dead in multi-vehicle collision northeast of Kamloops: RCMP

The Trans-Canada Highway has reopened to traffic after a multi-vehicle crash claimed the lives of two people, near Sorrento, about 105 kilometres northeast of Kamloops.

5 people were taken to hospital and an investigation into the crash, near Sorrento, is underway

Two people are dead following a multi-vehicle collision nearSorrento, B.C, about 65 kilometres northeast of Kamloops,according to the RCMP.

The crash,on Highway 1 near Little River Road, occurred Saturday around 8 a.m. PT,Mounties said.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash and will release more information as it becomes available,RCMP Cpl.Madonna Saundersontold CBC News.

"Details are limited and I have nothing further at this time," Saundersonsaid.

B.C. Emergency Health Services said threeambulances were sent to the scene andparamedics cared for and transported five patients to hospital. The extent of their injuriesis unknown.

The Trans-Canada Highway was closed in both directions between Little River Road and Lindburg Road for over 12 hours, reopening to traffic at 8:30 p.m. PT on Saturday.
