Victim identified after shooting in Surrey

Investigators have identified the man killed in a targeted shooting in the Whalley neighbourhood of Surrey, B.C., on Sunday.

Investigators have identified the man killed in a targeted shooting in the Whalley neighbourhood of Surrey, B.C., on Sunday.

Shots broke out in the area of 126A Street and 114 Avenue around 10:51 p.m. on Sunday. RCMP responded and found Verron Nand, 21, lying on the ground with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A statement said asecond man who'd also been shot was found near Nand. That man was taken to hospital and is expected to survive. Both men were known to police.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said its officers believe Nand's death was targeted.

"Determining the motive is one of our priorities right now, IHIT Sgt. Frank Jang wrote in a statement. "We are especially appealing to Verron's closest friends and associates to help us understand why anyone would do him harm."
