Man dead after collapsing on Grouse Grind

A man died at the halfway point on the Grouse Grind on Wednesday night.

A man died from a medical emergency while on the Grouse Grind on Wednesday night.

Mike DankswithNorth Shore Rescue said they received a call from one of their members hiking the trail at the time, who saw the man collapse at the halfway mark.

"Heactually witnessed the collapse and contacted us right away,as well as 911," said Danks.

North Shore Rescue dispatched an aircraft to flya medical team to the halfway point on the trail, where they treatedthe man for about 20 minutes before long-lining him back to the Cap Gate station.

Co-ordinated response

RCMP said North Shore Rescue and District of North Vancouver fire crews were able to get the man off the trail at about 8 p.m., but he died at the scene.

Danks said the man, in his mid-50s,was hiking with a couple of other people at the time.He said this call was a coordinated response with B.C. Ambulanceand the District of North Vancouver Fire services.

"Ifeel very confident this patient received the best possible care that he could have," said Danks. "Our condolences go out to the family."

North VancouverRCMPsaid they couldn't specify the man's medical emergency.
