Man presumed dead after Sea-Doo incident

One man is missing and presumed drowned after he was thrown into the Columbia River nearTrail Tuesday evening.

Police say the man and two others were on a Sea-Doo when they were knocked off and fellinto the water after hitting a wave.

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Jeffery Bauder of Trail.

City councillor Kevin Jolly says the conditions on the river are very challenging at this time.

"They've been significantly more turbulent. This is a very unfortunate incident and no doubt the heightened conditions contributed to that."

The search has involved boats, a helicopter and ground crews.

None of the men were wearing lifejackets at the time. One man managed to swim to shore, and the second was rescued by Kootenay Boundary Fire Rescue.
