Motorcyclist killed in crash with fire truck in Vancouver

A motorcyclist has died after a collision involving a Vancouver fire truck near Lost Lagoon on the Stanley Park Causeway.

A motorcyclist has died after a collision involving a Vancouver fire truck responding to a call.

The crash happened Saturday afternoon near Lost Lagoon on the Stanley Park Causeway,Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) saidin a statement.

VFRS said it was responding to a call at approximately 12:45 p.m. Saturday, travelling north on the causeway toward Stanley Park Drive, when the collision occurred.

The Vancouver Police Department says investigatorsbelieve the motorcyclist was traveling in the opposite direction when he collided with another vehicle and was then struck by the oncoming fire truck.

The unidentified motorcyclist died at the scene, despite efforts to save them by emergency personnel, according to the statement.

"Our crews respond to other people'semergencieseverydayin this city, to be involved in such a tragic incident while responding is heartbreaking," saidVancouver FireRescue ServicesChiefKarenFry. "Our hearts go out to thefriends andfamily of the motorcyclist and all those involved."

DriveBC saidthe Stanley Park causeway andLions Gate Bridge, which were closed for about.three hours due to the incident, have reopened. But, it'sadvising road users to still expect major delays due to congestion.

TransLink confirmed on social mediathat the crash has disrupted a number of its bus services accessing downtown Vancouver and the North Shore.
