New waste incinerator for Metro Vancouver planned

Metro Vancouver could be getting at least one new waste-to-energy incinerator as early as 2015, according to the latest draft of the regional district's new Solid Waste Management Plan.

Metro Vancouver could be getting at least one new waste-to-energy incinerator as early as 2015, according to the latest draft of the regional district'snew Solid Waste Management Plan.

The plan,released onlineMonday, also says the new facilities would be built inside Metro Vancouver, rather than elsewhere in the province.

About 20 per cent of Metro Vancouver's garbage isburned at a facility in Burnaby,producing steam and electricity.

The first public meeting to discuss the plan is scheduled for Friday.
