Search for 2 missing hikers near Keremeos continues

A search continues for two hikers missing in the Cathedral Lakes area west of Keremeos, B.C.

Rescue teams have yet to find 2 missing hikers in the Keremeos area.

A search continues for two hikers missing in the Cathedral Lakes area west ofKeremeos, B.C.

LynneCarmodyand RickMoynanleft for a hike atabout 10 a.m. PT Monday. They told the lodge they were staying at that they would be back by dinner time.

When they did not return, the lodge staff conducted a search. They had no luck and called theRCMPMonday night.

Fourteen search and rescue volunteers and two helicopters began a search on Tuesday, which resumed again on Wednesday, said Tracy Russell with Keremeos Search and Rescue.

"There's open terrain, there's rocks, there's alpine, trees. We'relooking everywherethere is to look."

There are plenty of water sources in the area and the team is hopeful for a positive outcome, according to Russell.

"We've got good people out doing their best job. We're very hopeful that things will come to a good conclusion."

The area where the two went missing is at approximately 2,000 metres elevation.

CarmodyandMoynan are from North Bay, Ontario,according to their Facebook pages, and both are believed to be between 50 and 60 years of age.
