Early snowfall sets record in northeastern B.C.

Power has been restored, roads are cleared and most sidewalks shovelled, after a record-setting snowstorm hit northeastern B.C. over the weekend.

Environment Canada data shows the Fort St. John area on Saturday shattered the record for heaviest Oct. 1 snowfall.

Fort St. John received 23 centimetres of snow, easily smashing the old record of 6.6 centimetres set in 1954.

At the height of the storm, more than 4,000 people were without power.
