Vancouver police have issued a public warning after a woman was randomly attacked in the Strathcona neighbourhood over the weekend.

Police say the 25-year-old woman was walking her dog through McLean Park, near East Georgia Street and Heatley Avenue, just after midnight on Sunday morning when a man pushed her to the ground and attempted to sexually assault her.

She fought off her attacker, managed to break free, and called 911.

The suspected is described as a 35-year-old man with a medium skin tone, about six feet five inches tall with an athletic build. He was wearing a black v-neck shirt, dark jeans and a dark coloured New York Yankees baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717-0601 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
