Evacuation order rescinded for properties near Oliver B.C.

An evacuation order has been rescinded for 15properties south of Oliver, B.C., after Tinhorn Creek overflowed its banks Saturday.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameensays debris was dragged downstream, partially blockingculverts and divertingflow from the creek.

"All residents may returnto their properties in the area but remain under a precautionary evacuation alert for the time being untilcreek levels subside," saida releasefrom the regional district.

The alert includes15 buildings along Road 8 and Road 9, south of Oliver.

On Saturday, at least one vineyard in the area said some of its vines had been damaged due to the debris flow.

Joseph Luckhurst with Road 13 Vineyards said some fencing was also destroyed by the debris.

"It's an issue," he said. "But it's not going to put us out of business."

Meanwhile the regional district said an irrigation canal that provides water for 750 acres of orchards and vineyards also filled with debris.

Additional precautionary evacuation alerts are in effect for properties along Testalinden Creek, south ofOliver, and Twin Lakes, west of Kaleden.
