Vancouver Canucks introduce metal detectors for games

It used to be a valid ticket and bag check were all that was needed to get into a Vancouver Canucks game.

But starting Sept. 22 when the Canucks play San Jose in the first home preseason game,fans will also be asked to walk through ametal detectoras part of"new safety enhancements."

In a media release, the Canucks say the introduction of metal detectors is part of aNational Hockey League initiative to standardize security procedures across all of the league's arenas.

The "airport style" walk-through metal detectors, also known and magnetometers, are being installed at all main entrances to Rogers Arena.

The Canucks say they expect entry to Rogers Arena will now take longer than in the past, and areasking fans to arrive 15 to 20 minutes earlier than normal.
