Hwy 1 crash confirmed as fatal head-on collision: RCMP

RCMP say a vehicle crash on Highway 1 between Cache Creek and Spences Bridge in southwest B.C. on Thursday morning has been confirmed as fatal.

The crashclosed both a CN rail line and the highwayin both directions for more than 24 hours. The area affected wasabout3 kilometres from Spences Bridge,a community around 180 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.

RCMPInsp. Chad Badrysaid the crash happened just before 7 a.m. PT, when two tractor trailers, going around a curve,hit head-on.

A manfrom the Lower Mainland was pronounced dead on the scene, Badry said Friday. Initially, one person was unaccounted for, RCMP said on Thursday.

The other driver was uninjured and is working with investigators, Badrysaid.

Drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as factors in the incident.

Fiery aftermath

Video from the aftermath of the crash, shared ona Facebook page called Skilled Truckers Canada, show debris strewn across the highway with one of the vehicles in flames.

The page describes itself as being run by truckers to showcase the consequences of crashes and accidents on Canadian highways.

A collision on Cache Creek and Spences Bridge, B.C., between two commercial vehicles left one person injured and another unaccounted for.
