Agreement reached with striking West Van bus workers; service to resume Tuesday

The union representing bus drivers and mechanics in the District of West Vancouver says a tentative deal has been reached between the two sides.

The union representing bus drivers and mechanics in the District of West Vancouver says a tentative deal has been reached between the two sides after a one-day strike.

"Picket lines have now come down and bus service will resumeon Tuesdaymorning," confirmed Bill Tieleman, speaking for the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 134, in a statement.

Details of the agreement are not known, but the dispute centred around benefit packages and high turnover of mechanics.

The strike, affecting all 149 members of the union, went into effect Monday morning. Talks restartedbetweenthe District and the union in the afternoon.

The deal must be ratified by the Amalgamated Transit Union membership in a vote, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
