Bear warning issued for K-Country golf course days before reopening

Just days before the Kananaskis Country Golf Course is set to reopen, the province is warning people that several grizzly bears have been spotted roaming around the area.

Alberta Parks says the advisory areas include the staff housing zone, parking lots, the club house and other buildings, and the golf course maintenance compound.

The warning is in effect until further notice.

The 36-hole K-Country golf course reopens on Thursday after a five-year closure in the wake of severe damage in the 2013 flood.

Officials say visitors to the area can avoid surprise encounters with abear by:

• Making noise and traveling in groups.
• Staying aware of your surroundings and watching out for bears and theirsigns.
• Keeping your pet on a leash.
• Carrying bear spray and knowing how to use it.
• Reading up on bear safety on the Alberta Parkswebsite or atWildSmart.

A bear closure is also in effect for the Bill Milne paved trail between the Mt. Kidd RV park and the Kananaskis River bridge on Mt. Allen Drive.
