Calgarians pedal for Bike to Work Day

If Calgary's pathways seem busier than normal itmight bebecauseFridayis theSixth Annual Bike to Work Day.

The annual event encourages commuters toleave their cars and try cycling to work.

Italsooffers sponsored pit stops along popular routesgiving refreshments and support to riders and Calgary is just one of many cities across North America that take part every year.

Michael Gray says he bikes to work as much as he can, but he says today is a great opportunity for people looking to try it for the first time.

"It's really a day to promote biking to work for people who really have never had the chance or just really are not sure if they want to bike to work," said Gray.

He was surprised by how much he enjoyed riding to work when he first started.

"I really enjoyed the wildlife, especially along the pathways," said Gray. "In the morning I got to just prepare for the day, and it was really a beautiful ride."

He said it also helps you lose weight and feel better about yourself.
