Man faces 7 charges after officer-involved shooting at Blackfoot Truck Stop

A 23-year-old man has been charged with seven criminal counts after a pickup truck driver fleeing police backed into a minivan then crashed into and ruptured a natural gas line near the Blackfoot Truck Stop on the weekend.

A 23-year-old man has been charged with seven criminal counts after a pickup truck driver fleeing policebacked into a minivan then crashed into and ruptured a natural gas line near the Blackfoot Truck Stop on the weekend.

The man is charged with two counts each of assault of a peace officer and assault with a weapon and one count each of criminal hit and run, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and breach of probation.

He also had warrants out for his arrest, police said.

In the incident, police pulled a truck over in the 1800 block of 9th AvenueS.E.near the Blackfoot Truck Stopon Saturday.

Officers saw a rifle on the seat next to the driver and ordered him not to move.

Instead, the driverput the vehicle in reverse and smashed into aminivanbefore advancing forward.

Officers fired at the vehicle and it crashed into a natural gas line, rupturing it.

A man was taken into custody suffering minor injuries to his arm, the result of broken glass.

A 15-year-old girl who was also in the vehicle was taken into custody and released to her guardian.

The 23-year-old is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 29.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is now investigating the incident, as well as another police shooting on the weekend.

In the second case, a24-year-old man faces four chargesafter a Calgary police officer shot a man during a machete attack atMarlboroughMall on the weekend.

The man was charged Monday with aggravated assault, assault of a peace officer, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and breach of a probation order.
