Calgary cab drivers fired after airport wildcat strike

Two Calgary cab drivers have been fired following a wildcat strike at the airport on Wednesday.

Roger Richard, the president of Associated Cab, allegeshe was assaulted by Calgary Cab Drivers Society presidentRupinder Gill.

He says the alleged altercation happened during the job action.

Richard filed a formal complaint with the city's Livery Transport Services.

Gill was let go today, along with another driver. Richard says he hasn't filed a complaint with Calgary police yet but it is a possibility.

This is the secondwildcat strikeundertaken by airport cab drivers in the last couple of months.

Around 300 Associated Cab drivers walked off the job in Augustto protest the dismissal of a fellow driver and raise issues about working conditions at the Calgary airport.

The taxidrivers also wantedall cab companies to be allowed to do pickups at the airport and for drivers to be able to decide whether they want to be on airport duty.

The Calgary Airport Authority had signed a six-year contract in 2010 with Associated Cab tocover taxi service atthe airport with no competition.

Drivers returned to work in the end after the airport agreed toestablish ataxi committee with multi-party representation.
