Calgary to Houston flight cancellations continue in wake of Tropical Storm Harvey

WestJet said flood waters will have to recede before resuming flights to Houston as Tropical Storm Harvey continues to pound southeast Texas.

WestJet and Air Canada flights still grounded but both airlines advise guests to check flight status

WestJet said flood waters will have to recede before resuming flights to Houstonas Tropical Storm Harvey continues to pound southeast Texas.

On Friday, WestJetand Air Canada cancelled weekend flights from Calgary to Houstonin anticipation of the storm.

WestJet saidit would make a decision when to resume flights on Sunday,anda spokesperson for the airlinesaid Monday's flights are expected to be canceled as well.

"It's day-to-day right now," said Lauren Stewart, spokesperson for WestJet. "We are monitoring the situation on the ground and will make a decision to return when the weather and flooding allow us to."

Stewart said there aretwo daily WestJetflights toHouston from Calgary and flights remain grounded until further notice.

Air Canada flightsfrom Calgary to Houston were also cancelled for Monday, but a spokesperson for the airline saidflights operated in cooperation with United Airlinesmay go ahead as scheduled.

Air Canadasuggest guestscheck their flight status online regularly for more information andsaid guests who had their flights canceled can rebook at no charge.

Stewart said WestJet guests can also check the status of their flights on onlinefor updates.

"We also have an advisory posted on the website detailing change [or] cancel for any guests who wish to make alternate arrangements," Stewart said.

WestJetcustomers can visit WestJet'strip advisories online to make flight arrangements.

Harvey is the fiercest hurricane to hit the U.S. in 13 years and the strongest to strike Texas since 1961's Hurricane Carla.

At least five people have been reported killed in the aftermath of the storm.
