Calgary police are investigating what they're calling the suspicious death of a child late last week.

Officers were called to a home on Falshire Place N.E. in Falconridge on Jan. 27 at about 7:15 p.m. after a nine-month-old girl was found unresponsive, police said in a release Monday.

The child was taken to hospital by ambulance with a police escort. She was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The office of the chief medical examiner was set to begin an autopsy on Jan. 31.

"However, due to specialized medical testing that must be done following infant deaths, infant autopsies often take several months to complete," the release said.

Police have spoken to several family members and continue to speak with witnesses.

Police said because the investigation is ongoing that no further details would be released.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-166-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers.
