Calgary police seize record cocaine stash

Calgary police announced Wednesday they had made the largest cocaine seizure in the force's history.

Police raided two homes Mondayafter a five-month investigation.

As well as finding what police estimate was $4 millionworth of cocaine, officers seized nine firearms, ammunition, a money counter,three vehicles and $90,000 in cash.

Three men, ranging in age from 22 to 27,face 89 charges.

Acting Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta saidtheraids werepart of an investigation into a gang member who had moved from Edmonton to Calgary.

The cocaine seized was destined for communities across the province, he said.

"Our biggest threat obviouslyto safety in Calgary is gang members possessing automatic weapons. Removing the weapons from the street is a huge success for the Calgary Police Service, as these weapons were likely destined to commit acts of violence, whether it be drive-by shootings to homicides in Calgary."
