Calgary's science centre closed until October

Calgary's science centre has closed its doors until the new building opens in October.

The science centre will re-open on Oct. 29 at the new, largerbuilding under construction on six hectares of land on St. Georges Drive N.E., near the Calgary Zoo.

The new,$160 millionscience centre will be home to four new exhibit galleries, an expanded Creative Kids Museum, a gallery for traveling exhibitions, and a large atrium and outdoor park.

The science centre will also be home to Calgary's only HD digital dome theatre, scheduled to open in the spring of 2012.

Attendance at the science centrehas more than doubled to 304,000 visitors annually in the past decade. The new centre, at 140,000 square feet, is designed to accommodate 500,000 visitors a year.
