Chris Hadfield named Calgary Stampede parade marshal

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield has accepted an invitation from theCalgary Stampedeto serve as parade marshal, for the second time.

The parade is the traditional start to the stampede. This year ittakes place Friday, July 5.

Hadfield is currently serving as commander aboard theInternational Space Stationin orbit above the Earth.

The stampede issued the invitation in a video.

Hadfield accepted via hisTwitter account, tweeting: "It's a good reason to come back to Earth."

Hadfield is set to return from space May 13. He has been aboard the station since December.

Hadfield first performed the ceremonial role of parade marshal in 2001.
