Cranston woman's suspicious death spurs homicide unit to seek former tenants

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found inside a home in Calgary'sCranston community two days earlier.

Cindy Enger, 51, was found dead in the 200 block of Cramond Close S.E. at about 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Police said they were initially contacted byEnger's ex-husband after he tried to drop off their sonat herhome as part of a joint-custody arrangement and received no response.

Officerswho went to check on Enger forced their way into the home after receiving no answer at the door and found her dead inside.

It was unclear for some time afterward whether her deathwas being treatedas suspicious.

Officials with the medical examiner's office requested that police hold the scene while they investigated and conducted an autopsy.

With the autopsy complete,Staff Sgt. DougAndrussaid Tuesday the death is now considered suspicious but not necessarily a homicide, as policeare stillawaiting further test results on her body.

"We believe that she was last seen alive Friday evening, but we're working with the medical examiner's office to establish a timeline of her death," Andrus said.

Former tenants sought as witnesses

Investigators believeEngermoved into the Cranston community in 2006 and has had about 20 tenants live with her over the past decade.

Police are looking to speak with those tenants,as witnesses.

Andrus said none isconsidered to be a suspectat this time.

Online ads under Enger's name indicate she was looking for a"mature, tidy and responsible roommate" to share her home, asking $650 per month in rentand then later lowering that to $600.

Andrussaid it appearsEngerhasn't had a tenant since last summer.
