150 dead coyotes dumped near reservoir in southern Alberta

Alberta Fish and Wildlife has received acomplaint that 150 coyote carcasses were dumped on public landssurrounding a reservoir in southern Alberta.

Spokesman Brenden Cox saidthe complaint camefrom a member ofthe public who made the discovery on March 2 at the Milk River Ridgereservoir, about 44 kilometres southeast of Lethbridge.

Cox saidit is legal to hunt coyotes year-round without a licence,as long as it's not done on unoccupied forested public lands wherehunting coyotes is only permitted during the hunting season.

He saidthe animals found in the reservoir were likely hunted andtrapped legally.

Cox saidthere are concerns about the improper disposal of wasteon public land, which is an offence under the EnvironmentalProtection Act and carries a $250 fine.
