Deerfoot commuters face 2 months of major delays as Ivor Strong bridge rehabilitation starts

Work gets underway Friday evening on a major bridge rehabilitation project on DeerfootTrail that's expected to create a traffic bottleneck for almost two months.

The province is replacing the expansion joints on Ivor Strong Bridge, which spans the Bow River east of Anderson Road and Bow Bottom Trail.

Crews are set to start work at 9 p.m. on Friday and will work day and night, seven days a week until July 4, Alberta Transportation said in a release.

Traffic will be reduced to two lanes in each direction.

The speed limit in the construction zone is 50 km/h and motorists are reminded that speeding fines double in construction zones.

While there are no weight restrictions for vehicles, there will be restricted access for large, commercial trucks to some of theon-ramps to Deerfoot Trailfrom Anderson Road, Bow Bottom Trail, Southland Drive, Douglasdale Blvd. and 24th Street.
