Dog attacks in Calgary under investigation

Calgary's Animal and Bylaw Services has been busy over the last fewdays investigating three separate attacks.

A 10-year-old girl and12-year-old boyweretaken to hospital Mondayafternoon after they were bitten by a great pyreneesinAbbeydale. EMS says the children received minor injuries, and police say the dog did not belong to their family.

Two small dogs were also killed in separate attacks over the weekend involving pit bulls.

Animal Services manager Alvin Murray says he's not as concerned about the breedsas he is about the owners.

"Our message is that aggression from animals will not be tolerated," he said. "And we will take swift action and we will charge people and they will end up in court."

Murray says the pit bull from Sunday'sSkyview Ranch attack has been seized and is now being assessed. Charges against its owner are pending.

However, Murray says the ownership of the dog involved in the Martindale attack is still unknown.

"We also have some people who are identifying some young people, Isay young and Imean minors, who allegedly took control of the pitbull and took it back to a property and we'll be following up with that today again," he said.

Murray says there were 244 incidents involving dogs in Calgary last year.
