A playfulpup kepttransitand animal bylaw officers busy for about 90 minutes Friday afternoon running between the Brentwood and Dalhousie LRT stations, but thanks to a team effort the story has a happyending.

Sgt. Ryan Bourgon andJason Walker, bothCalgary Transit peace officers, worked with animal and bylaw services to catch the medium-sized poodle mix around noon.

"He would come sort of close to us, we would think he was coming to us, then he would immediately run away, running fast up the tracks. I think he was scared, you could tell, and he was also playing around with us for sure," Bourgon tells CBC News.

He says train service was affected.

"Trains did have to stop," he explained.

"Myself and my partner were flagging trains throughout the incident, making sure the dog was actually off the track when the train was going, to allow the trains to proceed at a slow pace through."

In the end the dog managed to wedge himself under the wheel of a stopped train but officers were able to free him and return him to his owners.

"I feel great. I am happy to help a dog. I love dogs myself and I am glad it turned out the way it did," Bourgon said.

As for the owners?

"They sure seemed happy."
